If I buy gas from a gas station and store it in appropriate gas cans, will it expire if not used in a car?

Yes, gas will go sour, some of the components of gas will settle out and make your engine run rough. what I do is use a product called sta-bil, it has instructions on the bottle. You can get it at most auto parts stores I've even seen it in a lot of the big box store ie. wal-mart home-depot.
It will help you store your gas for a longer period of time, you can even use it in your car, if your not going to be driving it for awhile.
Hope this helps you. : ~)

When Does Gasoline Go Bad

Gas goes bad from oxgen breaking down the fuel and absorbing water from the air.
All new cars runs on a CLOSE system, another word, it is sealed to outside air.
If the gas is exopose to air, should be use within 30 days, otherwise use a fuel stabilizer.
i use a stabilizer in my gas can, and i never have problem for upto a year.

OK now that you have all the mis information , here is the truth.
Gas sitting in an un open container will not go bad persay, but it does break down.
The air getting to it is what makes it break down.
So if the container is air tight, it will stay goor for a long time.
But it must have as little air inside the container as possable.
PS you must have a small air space inside the container as gas does expand when it gets warm. If no air is inside it will make the cainer bulge( plastic) and will split the container open.

Yes, after about thirty days it starts to varnish up. Use a fuel stabilizer like Sta Bil to keep your gas from going bad.

Well it can evaporate and cause some hazardous issues, like the gaseous form of oil (not good).

So yea let go kill Exxon Mobil for having such high gas prices.

It won't expire say like Ranch dressing with an expiration date and such.
In a closed container it should be OK. No glass jars.
