Yes. Let the manager know you are interested-they might be going to do a lateral transfer for the other employee because they don't know anyone else is interested.

You can always ask your manager if you are a candidate for this opening position. At the very least, it shows your manager you have an interest.
You need to be totally professional about it. You have to be ready to be told that you are not the person for the position. If told that, then ask what skill sets or experience you lack so that you can work on them to be ready for the next chance.
You also have to be ready to demonstrate to your manager why you should be a candidate. What are your accomplishments that qualify you? What are your skill sets? What do you bring to the position that another candidate may not? Be prepared to discuss these points in a specific manner, not with generalizations and political posturing.
Lastly, be sure that you can objectively line your achievements and skills up against that other candidate. Are you as strong a candidate as she is?

You could apply for the Job ? They usually give it to the person who is better at the Job and understands it thoroughly ! If you think you are a good candidate than you go for it ! If the Job is already taken than you could wait for the next opportunity because it is also who has worked for the company longer as well !

I would just talk to your manager, and tell him how interested you are in this particular position... But, dont do it in a way, to make the other girl look bad, in order to get it.. Just be honest with him, and let him know how much it would mean to you, if you got the position, and sell yourself to him, without having to make anyone else look bad.. Otherwise, you'll just have an unhealthy work atmosphere, which, could cause alot of stress, for you to take home, with you at the end of your shift.. No one wants to deal with their job stresses, after work.. Good-Luck, to you. Hope you get the position..You so desire..Smile

What are the qualifications for the position??? Does the other person have more experience in that position?? There are a lot of parameters to look into.....you may be qualified, but they other may be even more qualified. Check with the manager and see if you really fit the position.

Absolutely, talk to your manager about it! Nobody will know how you feel or that you are even interested if you don't tell them. Since it's the same manager he/she should already know your work performance and be able to give you a fair assessment.
Good luck!

I would definitely talk to your manager about it. Let him/her know that you are committed to your company and would like the opportunity to interview for the other position and move up in the company. It doesn't hurt to ask!

"it seems" or "it is"
Don't give up until the job "is" given to the other person.
