Knee pain and "popping" sounds in an otherwise healthy (young) knee are not
normal. Since the knee is in the middle of a biomechanical chain of joints and
levers, whenever the knee complains, I look for the cause at the foot or the hip
first. If you have read my responses to people with knee pain, I usually suggest
that they get evaluated for biomechanical faults, and possibly orthotics. You
should also. From what you told me, it sounds like you are developing
chondromalacia patella - so take care of this before it becomes a problem that
prevents you from running. With knees, prevention is better than a cure! That is
why I tell people that while not every one needs orthotics at the moment,
everybody benifits from them, especially athletes. And lets face it, runners
pound on their joints day after day, and probably need them most of all!
Use ice when your knee is hurting, and try not to make them pop just to see how
they are doing - it can't be good for you!

It could be that you don't really have much cartilage left on your knee and that is causing it to be painful and pop. There are some over the counter medicines that work for knees and joints and if those don't help after a few weeks and it continues to hurt then go to the doctor. I have had this problem several times and the medicine has helped. By the way you can get it at Wal-Mart and it is not to expensive.

It depends. Do you have a history of injuring the knee? You may have slipped and fallen even so slightly could have torn your meniscus, ACL, MCL. It just depends. See an orthopedist and he should do many manual tests by maneuvering your knee to determine what it wrong. If for some reason, he cannot figure it out, he should order an MRI. Good luck.

possibly the beginnings of osteoarthritis. see your
dr to find out if he can do anything. if the problem
is not too far advanced, alternative medicine (herbs,
supplements, and the like) may help.
