The best way to get these special symbols is with character map.

To run this program:

Click "Start"
Click "Run"
Type charmap
Press ENTER on the keyboard.

Now on some Windows XP systems, the character map doesn't automatically come installed. In which case you will need to add it.

Click "Start"
Click "Settings"
Click "Control Panel"
Double-Click "Add or Remove Programs"
Click "Add/Remove Windows Components"
Double-Click "Accessories and Utilities"
Double-Click "Accessories"
Click the checkbox next to "Character Map"
Click "OK"

Once it is done installing go back to my original instructions.

You can copy and paste this, if you'd like:

®

Also, in some word processors, like Microsoft Word, if you enter this:

(R)

It'll automatically change it for you, which is pretty helpful.
