ask him how he feels about homo's
tell him your view
ask him did he ever experiment with same sex growing up
or did he have friends that did (THAT TAKES THE PRESSURE OFF HIM)
ask him did anyone (guy) make a pass at him..
but do it casually, give him examples of situations you heard of or ??
Do you think maybe he is bi? OR COULD GO THE OTHER WAY?

The guys I date usually volunteer the information once they find out I did activism in college (GLBT rights work) and usually it is a definite no. LOL.
