Well, in the Wizard of Oz it was water. It seems to me fire would have been more likely however.

Witch Weaknesses

According to folklore, witches of different cultures had different weaknesses, and some had none at all. There are many practices supposed to prevent or stop witchcraft, but very few that were considered effective against witches themselves--rather like there are ways to stop someone from breaking into your house, but no ways to "weaken" a burglar. The person who does the actions doesn't necessarily have any specific weaknesses.

One commonly assumed weakness was knots; a household could be protected from witches by putting knotwork or braids around the edges, and a person wearing braids was immune to the "evil eye" because the witch's gaze would be caught in the braid.

Some places believed that mixing salt & pepper and putting them in your shoe would protect you from witchcraft.

Several herbs were rumoured to protect a person from witchcraft: Angelica, bay laurel, red clover, elder, fennel and rue among them.

A witches bottle is a protective charm that was once created to protect from witchcraft, but today these items are used by witches for other forms of protection. A typical witch bottle is made from a small glass bottle, filled with pins, broken glass, rusty nails, and any other such sharp items. Protective herbs like rosemary can also be added. Fill the bottle to the top with vinegar, wine or even your own urine. The lid can be sealed shut with wax, or at least stoppered up securely.

Bottles are usually buried near the door of your home, but you could also store it inside, in a dark place where it won't be disturbed.

Well I have to say that you're using every cliche in fiction writing. Vampires aren't weak agains garlic or religious icons (especially if you read Anne Rice). Werewolves are weakened by silver bullets not balls. So if you want a cliche, then I guess witches weaknesses would be water (IE the Wizard of OZ - I'm melting, I'm melting) Also during the witch trials water was one of the trials to proving a witch.

Reality...oooh and Jelly Babies!! They Love those things...oh, wait no, that's the Doctor...hold on...yeah, that's it...Apples!!!

Granny Weatherwax can't get enough appples...she even brings a bag of them when traveling. Says the only reason she can't stand traveling is 'cause she can't trust the food.

Her weakness is definitely apples!!

Vampires don't like Sunshine either...so I've been told.
That's why they carry a small vile of blood in their pocket incase they get caught in direct sunlight. It's so whomever finds the pile of dust they've left behind might be kind enough to "reanimate" them by drizziling the blood over the dust pile.
They make great Photographers too.

Warewolves are weak for six foot tall Dwarves with red hair.

Trolls are an odd lot, it's really hard to tell the males from the females except by name.

And watch out for those Swamp Draggons..get them too upset and they'll explode...you have to be really gentle with them.

You know, you might be a bit better off just READING some Sci-fi/Fantasy books BEFORE you try writing one.

Terry Pratchette makes a total comedy out of these things. Anne Rice USED to write some of the most amazing Vampire stories...before she went "born again" on us.
Laurel K. Hamilton writes some pretty Riske' tales of a Vampire Hunter who can't seem to get enough sex....and it doesn't seem to matter with what either....

A witch's weakness is NOT water! Witches work with the four elements... earth wind fire water. If there was some sort of witch cryptonite.. it might be puritans, or miss informed peoples!

Witches always give themselves away.
Example: Sylvia Browne

You can use this in your story. (The name should be changed to disguise the guilty, and prevent any law suits.)
