Call it a day and move on. If all has been done then there is nothing left to do.

This might sound a little strange, but here's another angle to the idea of moving on when you know it's time ..... I've conducted group meetings for "residential clients" in treatment centers. Usually these people are admitted for substance abuse or behavioral problems. In the type of meetings I conduct, the group actually tries to help one peer with issues he/she is having. Often the "help" becomes a very deep and emotional process for the other members, who inadvertently become "vested" in the success of their peer, and in the value of their relationship with him/her. Yet there are times when the one for whom so much caring has been offered, flatly rejects his/her peers, sometimes with anger, and at other times calmly, without concern for their feelings.

This ALWAYS results in a sense of rejection, pain, etc., by those who put so much into the relationship. Ultimately they know they must move on, but they don't want to move on WITH the pain.

I ask them who's responsible for the problem: them, or the person who just won't come around. They always recognize it's the individual's problem. Then I ask them who has shown care, maturity, and strength in the process. They acknowledge that they did. I then ask them if they're strong enough to leave responsibility for the failure with the one who failed, and mature enough to love themselves for the strength they showed.

Most are able to move on, pleased with themselves, yet free from owning any of the pain associated with the failure of the relationship. You can move on. And love yourself for having "done all you can."

Eh ..... Does that help?
