Where does food go when I put it down the garbage disposal in the kitchen sink?

It is chopped very finely then travels down the pipes to your septic tank or the city treatment plant. Just like the stuff in your toilet, and the water from your shower.

It is finely ground up by the disposal unit and mixes with the drain water. The plumbing is tied into the household plumbing, which is either tied in to the public sewage system or your private septic system. So the food that you put into the disposal is handled by the same system that handles whatever is flushed down your toilet.

Here in Boston it eventually goes to the Deer Island waste treatment plant. Along with the stuff that gets flushed.

It gets mushed up and goes down the drain... just like the water on the other side of the sink.

Down the drain or in to a trap. most likely down the drain, The disposal grinds it up small to maek it fit easly.

goes to the water treatment plant ( in the sewer) , unless you live in the country and have a septic tank.
