Mars has not and will not appear that big. It was closest in August of 2003: http://www.bbc.co.uk/wiltshire/weather/nightskyaug.shtml
but it was not the size of a full moon.

It won't even be visible in August this year. Here are two sites

Sad, I know, but look for some of the other amazing things that are visible in the sky in August!

This has been occurring for the last few years. This will be the last time for a very, very long time that mars will be so close, this part is true. However, the size is a little exaggerated. It will be the 2nd largest in the sky. Remember not to count the sun. You cannot see the sun and stars at the same time. Mars will appear a little bigger than Venus, but a lot smaller than the moon.

I heard this one too. I'm sure that Mars will be bright, but as BRIGHT as a full moon (which is closer to the Earth than Mars can ever get)? Sounds like an exaggeration.

It was a couple of years ago. Although it wasn't as big as the moon visually-It only looked like a big red star. My friend sent me this e~mail too...I had to correct her. Woyld be pretty cool if it did look that big though. Oh well.

On space.com and nasa.gov they both agree that this will happen. Whether it does or not remains to be seen, but I am deffinitley anxious to see.
