England is a country in Northern Europe, once a mighty Empire Nation ruling over a quarter of the globe(I am neither defending nor criticising this point, just stating how it was.) Now increasingly being swallowed up in the quagmire that is called the European Union.
England has a population of 50 million and an increasingly diverse culture (compare and contrast this with some of the other answers and my point will be proved) It is has a temperate climate (that's putting it mildly). The English are known for being a mixture of both reserved and yet friendly people with a sense of humour completely alien to other European cultures (especially our German cousins). Our sense of irony is utterly wasted on the americans (much to our amusement and delight) and we can be seen as slightly crazed by the rest of the world.

A fantastic place. Even travelling around the globe it is still the best place to be. Nice climate, never extreme cold or extremely hot, never huge weather disasters, a great culture, modern and backward in the right measurements.
Can stand up for ourselves. Crime not too bad.
No civil war, no famine, employment pretty good.
Best place to be in.

England for the American traveler is like going home.. We recognize many literary, legal, artistic, similarities. It is also wonderfully foreign even though we understand the language. Go there.

Depends how open-minded you are. Many Brits can't stand it when Americans go on about the US being the best country in the world or complain about everything from the tea being too hot or the ice cream being too cold! If you leave that attitude at home, us Brits will welcome you as if you're returning home.

It's a great place to visit. Lots of history and culture and London has to be one of the coolest cities on the planet.

It's a great place. Cloudy or rainy a lot of the time, and the British accent rocks!

In the cities very busy, noisy and polluted. In the countryside it's peaceful, quiet, good pubs and generally a nice place to live. I like it anyway :o)

A question I'll probably never answer myself, though I admire them and owe them a cultural debt!!!! Probably charming, lovely, like the people, if not taken to saturation like the rest of our poor old world.
