Ok so I was the one who posted about my labor seeming to go backwards. I saw my midwife today and now I am 3-4 centimeters. Because of my labor progressing the way it has my midwife suggested stripping my membranes. It didn't hurt much and there was a little bloody show. I had a few more intense contractions over the next hour that were harder than before and some cramping then all of a sudden it all stopped completely. It is now 5 pm and this was done at 12 noon. Has anyone had this done before? My internet researches did not provide much information. I am due Thursday 7/20 with my 3rd andf cannot deal with this much longer. Help?

I haven't had it done, but I've done it to other women. All it does is irritate the cervix. If you aren't ready to go, then it isn't going to work.

You can try having sex with orgasm, both for you and your hubby. There are prostoglandins in semen that help soften the cervix, also orgasm for you can help bring on contractions.

Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk!! This is the best advice. It brings the babies head down so that it is lower in the pelvis, which puts pressure on the cervix.

You can try the acupressure that someone else suggested. There is also a spot 2 fingerwidths up from your ankle. There are indentations on both sides squeeze both of those indentations at the same time. You will know you have hit the right spot if they are sore, that goes for the hand one too.

You can try evening primerose oil. You can either take it as caplets, or insert one into your vagina (sounds gross, I know) and then go to bed. It will dissolve and release the oil while you sleep, and will help soften the cervix.

I wouldn't try castor oil or nipple stimulation. Castor oil can make you have severe stomach and bowel cramps and can give you either diarrhea or diarrhea plus vomiting. Nipple stimulation should only be done with a doctor close by. It can cause severe contractions that don't do anything to further progression of labor.

Honey I feel you. I went through the same thing and I have to be induced in the morning at 6:30. I am at 4 and have been for a week. They scraped my membranes last Thursday. Beg and I mean beg your midwife to start you on Pitocin. That is what they are doing to me. That is the only thing my doctor said would make my contractions consistant. I am so sorry for you, But look on the bright side, this all happened to my little sister too, she went in to labor about 10-12 hours after they done it to her.
Good Luck and Maybe there's still hope.

Sometimes stripping the membranes can jumpstart labor, other times it doesn't. If your body and your baby aren't really ready for labor, nothing will get it going. I have heard that if you have your membranes stripped, you should have sex because sometimes that can provide further irritation to the cervix and bring on some contractions that might turn into labor.

My doc stripped my membranes (WITHOUT my consent) for my first. It didn't really do anything. I had him on my own a week later. Edited to add that I was 100% effaced and 3-4 cm dilated when he did that and it STILL took a week for real labor to kick in.

i completely understand. I am due on Sunday and I have had mine stripped 2 times now and like you, I had the pain then nothing. It means the baby isn't ready. Drink lots or water to stay hydrated, rest if you can, but get up and walk around the house every 15 minutes for as long as you can stand. Try drinking pineapple juice (This dilated me very quickly) and try some acupressure on your hands. gently rub the webbing between the index and thumb for about 2 minutes at a time on each hand. This somehow stimulates your uterus. Try a little nmipple stimulation too. I have been rubbing my webbing for a few hours now, and I am getting some actual contractions. Good luck hun! if you wanna talk you can IM shotputter77 on Yahoo Messenger and we can talk til we go into labor.

i had my membranes stripped at 38 weeks. my doctor told me that she would do it, but if my body wasn't ready for labor nothing would happen. And nothing did. I went into labor at 39 weeks 3 days. But if you are already at 4 cent and your membranesare stripped chances are you will go really soon. hang in there
