Try elevating it and put ice packs on it. 15 minutes on then 15 minutes off. Ibprofen is also an anti-flammitory that may help. (Note: Do not use if you have a bleeding disorder) If you don't see any relief from that then I would call your doctor. They will probably do Xrays. Most Doctor's offices can set you up on a payment plan. Hope this helps! Good Luck!

that's hard one...I personally would see the doctor, seeing as the swelling hasn't subsided after three days. I can understand that you don't want to pay for a visit that is unnecessary though. Perhaps call the doctors office and describe your situation and see if they feel it's necessary for you to come in and be examined. Until then, try taking Ibuprofen, ice the knee on and off throughout the day and elevate your leg above your heart while lying down for 20-30 minutes at a time. This might help the swelling and/or pain.

I live in Chicago, Illinois. The nearest clinic is my first thought when I require medical care. My main place is the Cook County Hospital (now known as the John H. Stroger Hospital) and everybody who is poor and is not bashful, goes there. Prescriptions are free and the service may be slow, until you are registered as a clinic patient. Think about it. Who is more important than you? Forget about this question and answer session and see about yourself. I know how painful a knee injury can be. I got off of a city bus and fell into a construction site that was not covered properly. Both knees took the hit, so you can imagine how I felt. I couldn't stop to commiserate about them. I was on the way to the nursery school to pick up my daughter. Thus, I had to bite my tongue as it were and get over to her school. I did go to the hospital forthwith and had my knees x-rayed. Can you imagine what happened? Not a bone was broken, not even a splinter. I was relieved but still in severe pain. The doctor can examine you properly and give you immediate relief so that you can resolve this painful experience. Remember this, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.

If it is still swollen after 3 days, you should definitely see a doctor. Are your tetanus shots current? While you are visiting your doctor you may also want to get those updated if you haven't had one in the last 5 years. If you don't have insurance, and don't have a primary physician, go to the ER, they have to take you and they can set up payment-plans when you get your bill.
Take care.

What people tend to take for granted is that swelling can cause more problems and damage. Everyone is right Ice it, wrap it up with ace bandage not too tight cause it will cut your circulation off, and rest it. Is there signs of brusing? Ice brings the inflammation down and helps with the pain. However, do not place ice directly on your skin wrap the ice with a towel or cloth. Without really seeing the injury it's hard to tell how severe you injury is. It can take a week for the swelling to go down. If your swelling doesn't get better in a week and gets worse then you really need to see a doctor.

Did you ice it? Ice 15 mins on 15 mins off?
Also take an inflammatory like IBprofen.
See if the swelling goes down in a few days.
Stay off it as much as possible.
Beacuse it is a joint and almost impossible to not use at all, it will take some time to heal. You can avoid going to the doctor as long as it isn't fractured or broken.
If fluid does build up it will have to be drained.
I don't think it would hurt to see if it heals on it's own.
Good Luck, have a speedy recovery.

I am not a doctor and you should seek medical attention if it continues to bother you after three days because you may have torn cartilage or something. I would recommend icing the knee for 20 minutes four times a day, keep it elevated and try to keep your weight off of it.

yes with the high cost of health care, I understand your reluctance. I too am in that position. However, I do believe this time it is necessary. Perhaps a public hospital or a clinic would be best. Also, perhaps they offer payment plans. GL and stay off that knee!
