Definitely he has the blues....lost his child in a fall, overcame cocaine additictions, fought and won over his one true love Patti (Layla was written for her) and after finally marrying her, their marriage crapped out and they divorced.

In my opinion Eric Clapton was born into the blues -plain and simple. If you look at his life (though maybe not as bad as others) has suffered many loses throughout his career and personal life. And the answer to your second question .... why would he pull a childish stunt that would bring more skepticism from the media ? He is one of the few artists that try not to bring drama to his personal life.

He should... I'm pretty sure life isn't always as glam as it looks to the outside world. Since he lost his child in that horrible accident, I don't think he's ever really been the same... how could anyone?
