My mechanic says it is going to cost over $1,000, and I just wanted to make sure I am not being taken advantage of. Please help!

Call autozone find out how much the part is. It should take no longer than 1/2 hour to 1 hour to replace depending on how hard the bolts are to get off.

catalytic converters are expensive to get..even at a mechanic's discount. the labor to install it shouldn't take but a couple of hours, when the part comes in. get estimates from all over town first and visit the mechanics that you like first before getting the job done.

did you price the part? Catalytic converters are expensive. the install is relatively easily done at a muffler shop. You can also call around to different shops to get quotes. I would try to stay away from the dealership and go to a muffler expert
