I've just been hired for a new job. The job I currently work at wasn't giving me enough hours and I'm trying to think of a way to tell my boss that Friday will be my last day working for him. Also, I would like to tell him that i appreciate all the work he has given me this summer. How can I word that so that it doesn't make him mad?

Tell him... I really appreciate you giving me the opportunity to work here, but at this time I have found a job more suited to the hours I am looking for.

Well, the sooner you tell him the better, so you are not leaving him in the lurch trying to replace you.

I'd basically say, "I have really enjoyed working here and for you, but I just need to work more hours to make ends meet at home. I hope you understand. I know you have done everything you can to help me and I truly appreciate it. I wish there was some way I could stay, but I just have to take this other job."

He might get mad, anyway. Obviously, I don't know him. But if you acknowledge what he has done for you and throw in the need for more hours, odds are he'll understand...eventually.

Hope you enjoy your new job.

The normal courtesy is to give your employer 2 weeks notice, but if it must be so soon, then word it like you did in this question. It sounds very natural and humble. In addition, I would explain to him the money situation. The bosses understand the money needs in people, then say, this opportunity came up and you feel you have to grab it. And, thank him again as only you could with your naturally suave words.

Good luck and congratulations!

Tell him just like you said it. That's a little short notice though for him to find a replacement for you. Recommend a replacement if he's receptive to the idea.
Shake his hand and wish him well.
Be a pro about it. No good boss is going to be angry at somebody for bettering themself or their situation.

it's your choice. just tell him you found another job that's paying a bit more and you need the extra income. tell him not to take it personal and you appreciate all he's done for you. but you need to move on. you need to think about yourself and if you can earn more someplace else, then go for it. just give him notice right away. you would have to tell him so don't stall.
