I think not, what do you say?

I agree. A lot of today's music is taken from music from 25 to 30 years ago. They just use the old melodies and lyrics and add them to whatever else they come up with! How original!

I think it's all relative. The music we still hear today from the 70's 80's etc was the best of that time but scour the top 100 from each chart week and there are some shocking songs and songs you have never heard of.
I do think though that today there is too much on groups put together to sell records pure and simple. Back 20/30 years ago there was more talent, and people could sing better and play instruments. A bit like modern boy bands - who plays the instruments if its a band?

Depends on what type of music you're looking at I suppose. But in terms of the pop charts, there's still good stuff, but in general songs sound less original. Why?

Because these days mostly businessmen/women with very little or no musical talent or savvy are running the major labels. 20-30 yr.s ago there were more musicians running the labels, so the quality and standards of music were higher, I think.

Now a single one-hit wonder comes along, and all the labels jump on the bandwagon, trying to make each of their artists sound like that last hit song because they figure if the sound worked once, it'll work again to bring their musicians into fame (therefore bringing in more money).

Hell no! Compare Green Day to Led Zeppelin....just, no. They're not comparable. Led Zeppelin was the greatest band in the world, so said tabloids and newspapers. Let's see Green Day and Blink 182 play the Heartbreaker solo...or Van Halen's Eruption..

Now it's all about money. If you have money and know a record company, you're basically in. It's funny now you get famous first and then get talented, as opposed to bands in the 60's and 70's where they first became super talented and then got famous. And it wasn't easy. Money's increasingly becoming everyones priority each day. As long as you sell records, who cares if you're voice is crap?

But I have to agree that today's metal bands like Black Label Society are better than back then. Black Sabbath was still good, but they didn't play screaming metal or death metal which is what goes on now. I think metal is the only thing that has increased in quality and effort compared to 20-30 years ago. More guitar solos. More power chords. More drum solos. Hell yeah.

Music is relative and is also context dependant (IE social climate, technology). Sonically, music today is recorded with much higher spec equipment, but analogue gear of the 70's and 80's has become sought after. Some era's produce new ways of expression or sudden bursts of innovation, However musicianship is purely a matter of taste and has been ever since we've been able to create rhythm or sing a lyric. The quality test of what is good music or not is usually longevity.

The music of 20-30 year ago was Miles better at least most of the artists wrote they're own material and played instruments.

Definitely not.
What doesn't mean all new music su¨¨
One should also consider that the crap of 20/30 years ago is long forgotten where today's is a nuisance everyday so that could cloud our judgment.

Not at all. Music in the early 90s was excellent. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots were really good. Probably not better than 20 years ago but bands today just blow monkey balls. All that emo whining garbage, yuck, i want to vomit when i hear that pu55y sh!t.

Umm that is a very opinionated question.People from the older genre will say older music is better but kids from today mostly like todays music..So basically you like wat ever music you were raised around. But some rock music 20-30 years ago is still better than some of the groups from today, but some groups from today is better than the older bands.

few songs today have any meaning. What happened to meaningful lyrics? The 80's were the pinnacle of music but also the turning point for the downfall.
