If you want it more than anything, just tell her. It's your dream so who cares what anyone else thinks?

Family is important but do not let your parents destroy your confidence. Just sit her down and talk to her explain exactly how you feel and why you want to do this. The sooner you do the better you will feel, as i am sure you will need your mothers suppport and help if you do go into modeling, is so heres some advice.

I have heard a lot of bad thing about SOME (not all) modelling agencies and how they make you pay for photos and photo sessions before they take you on then never give you any work. Always check with the local Better Business Bureau.

NEVER GO ON YOUR OWN ALWAYS TAKE YOUR PARENTS!!!! BE VERY CAREFUL WHAT YOU SIGN!!!

I think a better starting place before you go to agencies is if you have a friend who is reasonable with a camera (do not have to be a professional or even that good just okay) Just take 100 photos of yourself in different poses, clothing and backgrounds then pick out 10-20 nice photos. You can then use this as a portfolio, and even better instead of printing them which cost you money every time, host them on a website and get some business cards print with the website address on and just hand these out instead. This is a far cheaper way of doing it and with no RISK. You should never have to pay to get a job if you do there is a high chance it is a scam.

However if you would like a personal portfolio site please contact me and I will set you on up for free. I can design you a fully personalised flash website with as much or little information and then host it for you. This site can contain a gallery of your photos, personal information, list of work, contact details, etc or if you prefer just a couple of photos and nothing else. It can be password protected and all images will be protected as is humanly possible, or the photos can be available to download.

Examples of work can be provided on request. Just message me here if you want, I am a professional website designer but have lots of free time (and enough money) so I am currently doing free sites for small bands, small artist etc, basically anyone who could not afford them otherwise. I have my own hosting server so can offer hosting servers or you can host the site yourselves. No images sent to me will be used for anything other than your site and I will not give anyone your detail or link to the site. You will have complete control and the site can be removed or changed at any time. This is not a scam and I will design a site for FREE, I do not need the money, and enjoy working. If you do want it message me you can tell me what you want and how you want it done and I will help.

Depending how old you are I may require parents permission before i will do any work.

I would just tell her, but like the actors who have answered have said, it's a tough business. You have to be able to take rejection well. It's the only job interview you'll have where your job qualifications will have nothing to do with wether or not you actually get the job. My daughter is studying theater in high school, and wants to pursue an acting career. I will do everything I can to help her, but she realizes that her dad and I also want her prepared for a career as well, in case acting doesn't pan out for her. I think your parents will be supportive, if they realize you're serious. Good luck!

Wow, that's really harsh.... I def. say you explain to her that this is a passion because most parents are like "ugh acting/singing/modling..." because those are VERY hard jobs to get into it takes alot of work and you have to be ready for that esp. acting, and modling because modling is a pain in the ****, and acting well you have to have one hell of a stomach because you have to swallow your pride and be able to take rejection because there's ALOT of it, trust me... i'm an actress it's really, really, hard but that's what I WANT to do that's MY passion and I've explained this to both my parents and they understood that I was personally prepared for the way ups, and the way downs for acting, I mean I've had my share of rejections, and they hurt but I wiped the tears that I saw fit to cry, and picked my head back up and went on auditioning. That's what your mother is probably worried about that because it's SUCH a hard business to get into that she doesn't want to get hurt, I don't think that she "doesn't believe in you" she believes in you she's your mom, it's just it's really hard to get into, she's probably worried that you'll be disappointed and won't be able to pick your self up. So explain to her that you're ready and you understand the work it takes.... and if makes you feel better I believe in you, I believe in anyone who has a passion and can't tell someone because if they know that just one person, no matter who has faith in them. So good luck!
and Break a leg.

Why, do you want to become an actor or model?

Do you live in a city with a lot of work for models and actors?

Start by taking acting classes, do it for about a year, and see if you still like acting.

Many actors in New York, work as waiters, because they can't get acting jobs. How do you feel about waiting tables?

Tell her you have a passion for the stage and you want to become an exotic dancer. Then let her talk you into becoming an actress.

Let her know that this is what you want to do, BUT I would also plan (and tell her this) on getting a degree in something else. It is VERY competitive, and I know...I have been in the field for a long time.
