Where did the term "soccer" even come from?

"you" seriously are. maybe you guys should think about changing that...why is american football even called football??? theres only a few kicks and the majority of the game is played with the ball in someone's hand....its silly to call it football. how 'bout "meatheadball"?? haha.

Football was named by the British. Just the US call Football soccer. If you look at this internet address (Encarta MSN):

Yep. Just like the game you call "football" is an approximation of the game that is known as "rugby" in the rest of the world.

The term "soccer" comes from the full name of football which is Association Football - asSOCiAtion = soca =soccer.

There is no official record that "third world countries" are uncivilized. There may be a wrong perception. "Third world countries are also called "countries in development" because they are lacking technology and most of the time natural and human resources. Actually the Australians also some times call it soccer. Thus the team name of Socceroos. Usually it is called football down under. We are the only one who only call it soccer.

I thought australia calls it soccer too cuz they have their own football....their national team's nickname are the socceroos....
