Well fitting clothes. I think the biggest mistake men make trying to dress as they're getting older is that at some point they probably wore either baggy jeans and sloppy shirts or skin tight ones. Jeans and a nice fitting t-shirt is always nice for casual. There are so many different styles for jeans, find one that fits you well and that you move comfortably in. Stay away from too big or too tight. ribbed t's are nice on some guys and also polo's can be nice if you wear it well.
All depending on your style. Find your comfort level and tweak it to what you see people wearing that you think look nice.
Comfort & Confidence are always key, find that and you'll be stylish no matter what you wear.

jeans, nice shirt with crew neck (no pocket), jacket with sleeves pushed up, brown tennis shoes.
khakis, button up shirt with short or long sleeves that isn't too long in the waist (don't tuck it in). Shoes could be loafer type, sliders or sandals.
Watch "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" they have a LOT of great ideas for men. They don't make them look "gay", but very fashionable and up to date.

I wouldn't suggest American Eagle or something like that. But other than that anything works because 31 isn't all that old...to me atleast.

Dress shirt unbuttoned at the top with nice jeans and dress shoes ...I always find that it a good look

For work, a flattering suit. For play, white t-shirt and Levi jeans.. mmmmm
