As soon as somebody learns how to prove it, it will be widely agreed upon.
Unprovable beliefs based on religion or instinct are equally primitive or "tribal," regardless of whether there is one global tribe or many.
The immutable is what's always true. What's agreed upon as always true is what can be proven. It's that simple.

well, 2+2=4 is immutable and all other numbers rely on that ...the same could be said for 2+2=4 relying on any other combination of numbers...now as to society i'm not so sure that there is any one thing that is immutable except for maybe the fact that we really dont have any control in respect to our global situation....maybe we think we do in our personal lives and in a perfect world if everyone did then things would just be dandy

I agree with you about becoming a nation of tribes. The truth is we all belong to one group or another. Every one of these tribes has an idea of how society is, or should be.

The first thing that came to my mind when I only saw the first portion of your question was: murder. However, upon further reflection, I realize that even that could be debated. I think all murder is wrong; yet I am sure there is someone else who would think that sometimes murder is deserved. I can't really answer your question. However, I will certainly give it some thought.

This is a long-time philosophical debate that all comes down to the notion of "absolute truth"... are there areas of truth that are absolute regardless of culture?
many say that certain moral norms could be considered absolute.
i.e. Murder, Lies, Greed.
but then again...
there are certain instances where these things are acceptable. so.. absolute? no.
I agree with you that this question does not have an absolute answer.

everyone could agree upon the fact that there is no such thing as a "fact", that each individual nervous system exists in a different universe from the next, and that pure thought is the only truth
at least, that seems pretty agreeable to me

Right and wrong could be different for many people. I guess it comes up to the way they were raised. Could right or wrong be an opinion instead of a fact?

Some might say, "death and taxes," but I think others would disagree with that as well.
I will try to think of something, but I think you might be correct in that there is no answer.
