Try premium bonds. I have a mate who has about that amount invested and he seems to win at least £50 each month. Can't be guaranteed but at least your investment can't decrease.

Shares are a bit shakey right now unless you really know what you are doing.
Best bet (low risk) would be to purchase a 1 year fixed term (ie GIC) investment from your bank, and wait until the investment market stabilizes.
The problem with the bond market is that it is hard to say whether inflation is going to go up or down at this point.

Depends on your attitude to risk and the time frame you are prepared to invest over.
High risk investments would be commodities, shares in high risk countries, speculative property etc. Low risk would be building society, on which you could earn a decent 5% return.
I do actually have 10k to play with, so I have spent some time thinking about this. And I've decided to piss half of it up the wall on a massive holiday and put the rest in high risk investments.

My bank account. I will play online bingo for you and split the winnings 80/20. The 20% naturally being my commission.
I must warn you that this is considerably riskier than shares and you may not get all of your money back.
I charge a 5% (Minimum £20) handling fee on balances transferred to and from my account and an annual charge of £12.

Your answer made me laugh! So you have already invested within the Universe. Think more positive, so that you do have £10,000 to invest, instead of day dreaming.
