I am doing this research for a Women's Studies class that I am participating in and your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

How do you feel about the ads in women's magazines that constantly talk about losing weight and gaining the "perfect" body? Do you think that it lowers self esteem for girls that do not look like that? Also, do you think that it would cause more eating disorders pressuring girls to be skinnier?

I think too much emphasis is put on women to have a skinny body, rather than a healthy body (like you find in men's magazines). I'm all for weight maintenance, when done properly, through well-balanced nutrition and exercise. Those "miracle" diets that make women believe they can take a pill & lose 50 lbs. overnight really annoy me though. People need to be educated on NUTRITION... this should be a required course in highschool. If more females, and males, understood how the body works there would be far less pressure and/or desire to be skinny & malnutritioned... and less insecurity.
