they stand for about 150,000 people from outside Chicago coming to Chicago and spending large amounts of money -- even for a city the size of Chicago it's quite a shot in the arm.

They also stand for a lot of gay people, playing sports together and having fun.

Nothing else that I can think of.

The Gay Games were originally called the Gay Olympics, but the US Olympic Committee sued the organizers and made them stop using the name. Don't you just love that "Olympic Spirit?"
