In response to Thomas, I am not pro anything, I don't know, it's very complex sometime, however i certainly do not believe abortion as a method of contraception. But surely if it was unavailable it would be like in the 60s here where womans were dying on kitchen tables, have backstreet abortions.

No, there are pro-lifers in the UK just as there are in any country of the globe, however the UK generally doesn't go in for the radically retarded version of pro-life which involves killing doctors to save babies.

Because the good book says "thou shalt not kill" you'd have thought they'd understand that included doctors, but you've got to give morons their day - when they want to enforce their cheap morality on others, they like to go the whole hog.

Hello, I thought I would throw my thoughts in after reading all of the answers. There are, of course, people for pro-life in the UK. The reason you are not seeing many of them is because they are not shoving their beliefs on other people like Americans often do. See, I am not sure if you've noticed, but many Americans are what is known as "brain-washed." They don't have open-minds to see past what is shoved into their craniums. I don't like to use the word "pro-life" because it makes those who support woman's rights, such as myself, seem pro-death. Personally, I would never have an abortion unelss I was raped or if I knew I couldn't afford to keep the child. People need to learn that EVERYONE makes mistakes, even you. Nobody's mistake is worse than someone else's. The other side will often say "perhaps the person should have kept her legs closed," but is that always the case? What about 11 year olds that get raped? What about just young teenagers that make mistakes? People have their reasons. Nobody WANTS to have an abortion. When an abortion is made, fetuses are undeveloped and unable to think or feel pain-similar to being a cell. The fact is, it is a woman's right to choose, not the government's, and many women feel that they would rather terminate an undeveloped fetus rather than put a fully-functioning baby through a possible life of starvation and poverty (due to expenses of taking care of a child), living with the fact that they were born due to a rape, a life of going from foster home to foster home, or being thrown in a garbage bag on the side of the road. I didn't mean for this to be so long, and I got a little side-tracked from the original point of this message, but I hope that it anwers your question. I admire you Brits, you seem so much more intellectual than Americans, by the way. Have a nice day.

I'm sorry I may not understand your question correctly. There are two sided to the abortion debate in the U.S. Prolife and Prochoice. People have different reasons for choosing which side they are on, and some never choose a side. I am personally pro-life. I have reasons, but my reasons have nothing to do with being American. I do personally do not beleive it has anything to do with a woman's body, and everything to do with killing an inocent unborn child.

Now most people would suggest that I beleive this because I have never had to be pregnant and that is true i never have, but I have to live with decisions that are made regarding the life or death of my child, and I do not have a choice in the matter.

I personally beleive that it is life when the babies heart beats, and I was able to hear my youngest son's hearbeat when my ex-wife was only a month pregnant.

Other people base their opinoin on religious or other beleifs.

I have been accosted by Pro Lifers on the streets of London, asking me to sign petitions to stop abortions.

I think abortion is a very difficult and personal thing for an idividual and not for others to judge.

Some abortions do seem to be carried out very late & the issue there is that the feotus can feel pain. Some pro-lifers believe that the feotus can feel pain right away.

I try not to dwell on such issues. Each person has the right to chose what they do with their body and their life.

I do think that the gestation age should not be past 14 weeks to be honest if an abortion has to be done.

Abortion costs in the US are almost always absorbed by the mother. Our social welfare system does not pay for abortion. The poorest of the poor must pay for the abortion or bring a child into poverty. The passion is due to the belief of our basic rights. Division is from the diversity here!

i think of if professional-lifers do this, the 'professional-abortion' women human beings could be getting prego in basic terms for the money $$$. i could extremely provide the lady the $3000 to get HER AND HIM the two on beginning administration, to stay away from the abortion difficulty from ever springing up.

I'm not so much pro-life as much anti-murder. there are two sides. i always have to point out that i have never been in a woman's shoes, and i have never been a victim of rape or abuse. pregnancies from those situations cannot be lumped into murder. i am totally against killing a defenseless baby you were grown up and ready to make, but not take responsibility to live with. you can't wash everything off the morning after, and you should not be able to dispose of your mistakes when they catch up to you. especially when it is a life.

I can't understand anyone not being a "Pro-lifer". I don't see how killing unborn babies is a good thing to be doing. It will help change our attitude toward each other. We will tend to start seeing each other as commodities, possible disposable, unless we meet certain criteria. It seems to be all about women's choice. What choice does the baby have?

How can you be Catholic and also pro choice? Pro choice only means that you are not prepared to take responsibility for your actions, and that you are prepared to take a human life to pay for your mistakes. My personal view is that abortion is murder.

No, it's because we were a country started by the puritans and other religious freaks and rejects. Some people just feel like they have to butt in.
