We have a real bad problem with flies in our garage. I have tired everything...the wather bags (doesn't work worth a crap) the fly strips work but only for awhile, fly spray (again, only work for awhile) I have cleaned up my garage and garbage outside of the garage and they still come around. I heard about spraying vineager around doors but does that really work? Probably just as well as the bags of water (which doesn't) I have also been told using a half empty beer bottle and putting it out and it will attract flies...it does work but then you get more. I guess you would have to put it outside. have fly swatters but that's getting gross. also heard of hainging clear 2 liter bottles and fill them alittle with sugar water or soda, pole a few holes around the bottle and the flies go in but can't figure out how to get out...does that work at all?? I need a SURE FIRE way to get rid or minimise my fly problem...can't anyone help?

Try spreading mollasses or something across a big piece of wood. They'll get stuck then you can throw away the wood. If you have that many, it probably needs to be something big for them to all land on. We have a problem with those stupid little fruit flies. We tried the flypaper thing and the fly strips, but the things that work best are putting little bits of stuff that's sweet and sticky (like soda, juice, ice cream, fruit, etc) in cups and putting them all over the house. They get stuck in there and then we can just wash them down the drain or throw the cup away. So try that with the soda bottle technique you mentioned. We might actually try that ourselves. You need to keep cleaning them all out every day as soon as possible, or else some of them will figure out how to escape, go reproduce, and then not fall for the same trick again.

Try going to your local Home Depot and ask if they have any kind of big fly traps too. They might have other things that work well.

You can also try getting a small aquarium and some frogs/toads. Don't put a screen on the top, let the flies be able to fly in and out of the aqaurium. Just put something they want near the tank so they'll go near it. See if the frogs are able to catch them.

Good luck!!!

I have the same problem because we live in a horse community. Learn the fly's characteristics, like they don't like the dark and will fly to the light. When in the dark they can't see so they roost on vertical things or on the ceiling. Darken the garage and then crack the door and go in and wave 'em into flight towards the door. I will do this during the day only. At night they can be sucked up with a long tube vacuum approaching slowly from the rear without a shadow. A bug bomb can be used but read the instructions like any of the chemicals used. The best thing I have done is mounting a ceiling fan just outside the walk door. Floor fans are also a deterrent if positioned effectively because of the drafts. Attraction traps need to be away from the area. The most effective spray types are available at dairy suppliers. Click here to start and just try and keep trying to see what works for you.

During different seasons and weather some of their habits change a bit.
You already know to seal any big cracks around the big door. There is no magical fix just what ever is most effective for you

I"m curious.. how far away from the garage is the garbage can. We had a real bad problem with flies in the garage as well and I figured out that I needed to put the garbage outsided. Then a while after that I realized the recycles had to go outside too. But.. they were sitting close to the garage and of course there is a slight gap around the sides of the door so they come in through there. If the Garbage can is outside but still close to the garage, they could be comming in because of that. Try moving it farther away.

cover yourself in honey, then walk into your garage. stand still for a couple hours, and then you will have trapped them all. once you remove yourself from your garage, the flies will be gone.

Some of our local restuarants use new dryer sheets (Snuggle, Downy, Generic) They stick them up around the doors. It seems to work pretty good.
