how do i find a record of a divorce from another state?

my deceased husband was married to a doreen smith around 1977 and divorce her around 1989 in the state of virginia, i need to know if that marriage was ever disovled

If you know the county of the divorce then you should be able to contact the county court house and they should be able to tell you or you can order a copy of the papers. Best wishes

Contact the county court house and ask for the County Clerk Office. They are the ones who keep the records of marriages and divorces.
