Most of the Secretaries General were criminals of one sort or another. Kurt Waldheim was a former Nazi, Koffi Annnan's oil for food. It seems to me that the UN is nothing but a bunch of criminals and a repository for Anti-American and Anti-Semitic doctrine.

Sometimes its good to have a body that you can express your position. This keeps us all trying the diplomacy route first. Some other countries feel that the UN still has credibility. So we use them until they get in our way of doing the right thing. Case in point. There are 30 nations who told the UN to pack sand in the case of Iraq. We went another direction because it was the right thing to do. The UN needs US because of the money we give them, and its a nice tidy sum.

What conservative alternative is there? NATO? Maybe we can resurrect the League of Nations.

I don't like the U.N. much either, but let's work on some real solutions to international diplomacy rather than just tearing down, hoping that someone else will rebuild.

Oh give it a rest. America has always hated the UN.

Why? Because it wont let you be the bulll boys you want to be. The UN only works as well as its strongest link, which unfortunatly for the world is you guys. God help us if anything horrendous happens, you just ignore the international community

We are there because they need our money and manpower.

We are also there to keep the criminals you listed in check.

The U.N is a waste of time and money today. The world should use it's collective resources in better ways.

Let's face it people. If the U.S. ever crumbles, the world will be a terrible place to be.

Staying in the UN has one advatage to the US.This imperfect body is there to resolve matters peacfully,so by leaving it we may exaccerbate Anti-American sentiments. Not that we need anyone's approval, but we could in turn have more sympathy when we need it.Bush has already proven he doesnt need to consult the UN,but by being in it we have at least the appearance of adhering to it.This at least provides some leverage in our justifying our foreign policies.

What is the alternative to the UN? War? As messy as democracy is it is superior to all the alternatives. The UN is where we resolve international disputes without killing anyone.

we still belong to the UN because with america being one of the permanent members, we still hold a lot of power in the UN which is still somewhat of a world power, and its in america's best interest to continue to belong to the UN even through the corruption
