No one quibbles with Israel's right to defend itself, but we Americans must understand how irresponsible and immoral it is to deliberately escalate the conflict in this way, and that Israel, like Hamas and Hezbollah, wants the violence and war.

The way to end it is to either divest in both parites, or to commit in real terms to establishing a Palestinian state, to take Hezbollah's "defenseless Muslim protector" card away.

By the West encouraging, funding and negotiating on behalf of Israel in the UN and elsewhere, we are taking sides and we are in denial about what Israel is actually up to.

They do not share our beliefs of peace in the middle east.

The New World Order Picture:

Israel, Iran and Syria will be divided by the time this war is 'ended'.
The West has a game plan for the middle east. It will not see peace until this division has happened.

BTW, we Westerners should be watching for an "October Surprise".

Hezbollah is Iran's surrogate in South Lebanon. Syria, along with the gulf states and Saudi Arabia, provides most of Palestine's support. The Palestinians had a decent economy going with the Israelis, but they scrapped that in favor of the Intafadah. Most of Palestine's economy consists of people who work for the state in various capacities (many in the different militias loyal to the different parties and leaders) and people who sell them food and transport. There is no self-sustaining economy. Their game plan is to attack Israel for generations until the Israelis all leave. Hezbollah is the effective government is South Lebanon. The Lebanese are too divided to take Hezbollah on without Syria's say-so. Don't look for that any time soon. So more of same.

Israel is surrounded by countries who have vowed publicly to wipe them off the face of the earth. How would you go about negotiating that? What compromises would you suggest?"Okay, what if only half of us die, would you settle for that?" They are a people who have been raised in "Eye for an Eye", not "Turn the other cheek." If the Palestinians would like to form the first ever Palestinian state, would it erase generations of hatred? The "Defenseless Muslim Protector" card was only ever a thin veneer of justification. Hezbollah doesn't care about Palestine, Hezbolla cares about Israel. Israel on the other hand, has yet to strike pre-emptively. They retaliate in force, but not unprovoked. If Hamas and Hezbolla would really like peace with Israel, they have simply to stop killing Israelis.

The United States and it's allies brought all this on by establishing Israel as an independent state after the end of World War 2. Further meddling in Middle East affairs is not the answer. In reality, the easiest solution would be to back out and let the warring factions there go at it until someone wins, then establish diplomatic ties with that government.

I respectfully disagree with the premise of the question. Israel is a democracy and the world needs a democracy in that location.

Also, the US has given hundreds of millions of dollars of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in recent years; both directly and through the UN.

Why can't Syria offer land for a Palestinian state? Or Egypt? Looks like Iran has land to spare.

Good luck with your question.

No. If the US establishes a "viable and successful Palestinian state," Hezbollah wouldn't view it as legitimate. They want nothing short of the elimination of the state of Israel and the institution of a purely Palestinian state in its place.

I do not believe that Israel's constitution or charter states that no Arab nation should exist. Hamas, Hezbollah, even Iran and Syria don't want violence, they just want Israel not to exist. A Palestinian state as big as Texas wouldn't fix that.

Palestinians will never have a viable state. They will not form one without Israel agreeing to allow the return of millions of Palestinians, which is not going to happen.

I think Utah could fit more than just the Mormons. I say we should move them to Utah. And if the Mormons have a problem with it, then let them invade. I believe the Mormons will take over Oregan and Montana too. They will form an alliance with the Amish, and they will start a war against Israel.

We now know, definitively, that there is no end to quarrelling AMONG Palestinians THEMSELVES.

You can't make a deal with people who knife each other.

The Israelis have been brutal, yes, and now they must continue in that manner until the Palestinians of all stripes are exiles.
