Its not essential. I am not interested in what my partners family thinks. It is not essential that they like me. I am interested in her not her family. I am not co-dependent and I therefore dont care if I ever see them again. What is important is whether my partner and I are happy together.

I might be crazy but I don't mind her. She is quite depressed still form a divorce 20 yrs ago but basically stays out of our business and is quite nice. She is a pack rat and obsessive but I can easily blow her off. My step mother in law is a dream. She loves to do laundry and gets offended when there are no dishes to do. Makes Wifes life so much easier and everyone knwos that wen Mom is happy everyone is happy. That makes my step mother in law a favorite in my books.

I hate my mother in law. My husband has children from a previous marriage. His mother tells his kids that I don't like them, that I am trying to take their dad away from them, that I don't want their dad to call them, and who knows what else she tells them. His mother is a big, fat lie. I tell my husband to call his kids, I make sure they get birthday cards and holiday cards, I try to get him to invite them down to stay with us for a weekend or so. I know my mother in law is the reason my husbands children hate me. I am about to give up on them. I can't go crazy worrying about those kids anymore. I have cut off all communication with my mother in law, I will have nothing to do with her. I am not wasting my time with that back stabbing lady. ooh the fun! in laws? who needs them?

I like my mother in law. She's a sweet lady. We have a lot of differences (she's a southern baptist and I'm a born and bred pagan) but we like each other on a personal level and we treat each other like adults. Even if we didn't like each other, we would be kind to each other for my husband's sake. Mutual tolerance and respect is a definite necessity. You don't always have to agree but trying to see each other's point of view teaches you a lot of things about each other.

I guess my ex-husband would be the only person I know of. He actually tattooed my mom's name on his arm.
I used to like his mother too at one point ........... until she became my ex-mother in law - then everything changed between us.
