I got a new netgear wireless router for my laptop. When I try and connect it to my Westell Model6100, I do not get an internet connection. I am using Verizon DSL. What could be the problem?

You have the Westell model as a gateway and not as a bridge

First, you need to your username/password tp authenicate into the Verizon network. This is called your PPPoE username/password.

You have to login into the Westell Model 6100 (Direct connection from computer into Westell) You need to do two things and where you change the Westell into Bridge Mode and does not do any lease (DHCP is disabled)

Configure your router to be a PPPoE and there will be a field to enter your PPPoE username and password. Test your connection. It should work.

If you can't do this. Call Verizon TechSupport (via cell phone since you could disconnect your hardline during the power cycle) to follow the steps above.

Well, i used to work for an ISP. If you are using Verizon, you may need to set up your ISP info in the router (setup page .. usually 192.168.*.*) what you might need is something called a PPPoE user-name and password. This is usually your log-on for Verizon (email login and password). If this is not the case, you may want to call the router manufacturers support line.

look on the router itself. on the back there are directions on how to login to the actual router address so you can check in on the status of the router and modify your own settings for it. i suggest you do this first and then re-evaluate. the best thing to do is run the setup wizard and start from scratch. you can also recycle the modem and router (turn them off in order-computer, dsl, router) and see if that works. good luck!!
