A friend of mine exceeded California's no fee legal aid. Only because she was $200.00 over. This amount is not much. Her children's father refuses to see his children and give child support. I would really appreciate it if someone can point us to the right direction and locate a lawyer that will not charge an arm and a leg for a single mom that can barely make ends meet.

I dont' know any pro bono legal aid, but you can get a ton of legal advice for a flat fee and big discounts if you have to hire a lawyer to go to court. It is amazing what you can get accomplished with the right legal advice and if a phone call or letter on your behalf will help they will do that to. It is only $17 a month in my state and no long term contract or anything. Month to month. You use it for a month and if you don't like it cancel. I love it. Your state may be more or less $$.

I would seriously consider a Pre Paid Legal plan. It can be as cheap as $17-$26 a month and you have access to an attorney whenever you need it. You can call to ask questions and they will write letters and make phone calls on your behalf. There are some other great services included as well like helping you keep points off your driving record when you get a ticket. Go to court for you if you were out of state when you got ticketed. They will do your will, if you're sued, your membership includes pre-trial and trial time so you're covered. If you need anything you membership doesn't include it is at LEAST 25% off.
Take a look at http://prepaidlegal.com/hub/cdmallicoat. Let me know if you have questions, this is a great service and would really help you and your friend out.

Contact the counties child support division
There are also web sites that will get your child support for you without charge for the services...like court and legal fees. They will however get a small percentage. I thought at first it was a joke...but its true..and if you look at it like I did......your not getting anything now.....so any amount would help. It may not be the full amount that you think but it is more than your getting now. Just do a search for free child support help. Good luck

Find a lawyer that will work probono and let the lawyer make the deadbeat dad pay for his services.

I have the same problem. My ex will not and refusses to pay child support to me. I got intouch with my state and filled out a paper saying this is what he is court order to pay me. The state now has his wages garnished before he even gets his paycheck. Try going to the california department of child support services and see what she can do to qualify.

Go to the Bar Association and start asking the female lawyers - they'll be much more sympathetic to that specific cause.
