If he is really shy around you it is very possible he is interested in you. being a guy it is often really hard to talk with a girl about how you really feel. Especially if you haven't yet realised whether the girl is someone you feel you could be serious with.
Try talking with him. Nothing too serious, just brush the question to the side for a bit and sort of feel him out. If you like him, let him know you enjoy hanging out with him. Who knows, he might let you know he wants to know you better.

I think you are friends, he just doesn't know how to answer you.Some guy's are painfully shy, which means it's like pulling teeth, be patient and let him tell you on his own terms and time. If he stays around you , then he's your friend, if not may be he's not your friend. Branch out and find more people your age.
