the check in desk opens 3 hours before the flight.. the queue if you are at the back of it can take an hour or more.. so. You judge it by that

If you were at the back of the queue, you wouldnt check in till 2hours before. But you might end up with rubbish seats or sat apart.

They need this time for security reasons. Oh and, sorry, but most airports "don't have much to do there" its an airport, not a fun fair. Take a book.. or sit outside on the sun terrace and have a few last drinks.

Gosh .. sounds like you have never been abroad before?

get there at least 3 hours before departure. The airport is tiny but hey take a book. Once you get through the gates DO NOT GO TO THE FIRST CAFE on the first floor on the right hand side, its seedy and dirty, use the cafe upstairs opposite the bar. Ask your travel agent for Punta Cana times. Happy holidays

P.S. They never check the weight of luggage on the way back from Dominican so fill up with rum!! I always do.

yeah, that's what they say but we spent hours in the airport.
yuk. it is tiny and i think you would be ok with an hour.
but the tour company/hotel arranged our transport and we didn't have much control over the time. there are duty free shops there. and lots of people waiting.
