So what are your thoughts on this North American Union? I am not so sure if it is a good idea to have open borders between US & Mexico. Wouldn't annexing a huge third world country ruin our economy? Or will it help it by getting cheap labor.

I think an american-canadian thing would be alright. But the mexican thing I don't understand too much.

thomas p, Harper is the one pushing for it. The anti-americna canadians would obviously not want to be a part of it. I said I would like if Canada was but I didn't say they wanted to.

and tell me how americans hate canadians? I never seen that.

And how can you deny Mexico being a third world country?

and how would this only benefit the yanks? This would benefit everyone .

davidangelrt, trust me if there are open borders then annexation will come. If americans flood into canada then they would promote Alberta and other provinces to become states.

Putin is a hypocrite. globalization may be the future. Russia is trying to unite asian countries-- it is pretty hypocritical of him to say anything about US taking over mexico.

and if Mexico does join the union you guys would have a say in the government and you could control it the way you want. You and Canada could prevent Bush if you wanted to.

Europe is trying to unite, South America (see this link en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ South_American_Community_of_Nations ), I think North America may be next to try to get things going.

México may be a third-world coutry, but it's full of natural resources: oil, silver, nickel, coal... even some uranium! There is a lot of soil to work too.

But either way, I'm mexican, and I'd never want my country to be annexed to the USA, I don't agree with US government, I am of the idea that US is a colonialist country that's just trying to extend its influence as far as possible, just like Russian President Vladimir Putin says. México should be a sovereign country, it has everything to become a 1st world one.

But open borders is very different from "annexing", Canada and the US have open borders. It would be great for theprivate sector in the USA but pretty hard on the private sector in México. No benefits for us!

Mexico, a third world country?

You clearly dont understand Mexico friend. However, thats for another day

A North American Unionwould beenfit no one but the Yanks, and why would Canada want to be part of you guys? Their a world power, they have a strogn economy, their memebrs of the Commonwealth, no one hates them like you guys...

NOTE
I dont mean Americans hate Canadians, i mean the world hates Americans *well, most of it* and the Canadians are technically a neutral country.

Wow! Ross Perot said it 20 years ago, NAFTA would cause this big sucking sound of jobs to be exported!
It isn't that I want to exclude our Mexican friends from prosperity, I do want them to enjoy a good life, but not at MY expense! I don't want to give up our good jobs to export them to Mexico, Thailand, Indian, or anywhere else in the world. Why should I suffer to bring their slandered of living up?
When I was a kid, just out of high school, a person could get a job that paid living wage right out of high school. Now just try that! It takes two people working to jut et by. How is that better? I took a two bedroom apartment at age 18, downtown, and made enough to pay the rent in one weeks pay. Now try that? How are we better off?
I had a two year old car out of high school, I paid for it with my income in less than six months. Try that now! We are NOT better off since we took the world in to our life. WE Americans once had the highest stand red of living in the world, now we have exported that. Don't tell me things are better now than then I lived both times!
NAFTA has hurt the USA, and we allow this to continue!

Although Mexico doesn't have such a hot economy, it probably wouldn't drag ours down with it. If anything, combining the two economies would strengthen the result. Mexico doesn't have a lot of wealth, but it does have a lot of cheap labor and manufacturing potential, neither of which the united states possesses.

It's away for Large Corporations to move their products from Mexico to Canada , with out having to stop and check the freight that passes through our country .You should check it out on : www.scotsman.com . The US will be divided by a superhighway plan and it's a " bi-partisan effort".
