I'm going to Ottawa from Toronto on Friday (four hour trip). I just changed my air filter and my oil doesn't need to be changed yet (probably need to once I get up there). Any other things I can do to get the maximum bang for my gas dollar?

General tune up. Plugs, Wires, Cap and Rotor (or coils depending on which you have), PCV, and in addition to the air filter change the fuel filter. Make sure your tires are properly inflated, and remove any junk in the vehicle that you don't need. "Tools" that are supposed to improve gas mileage have been proven to do nothing time and time again. One additive that can help is Lucas fuel injector cleaner (they also make an oil stabilizer that is great, but won't help fuel economy) it will help a great deal and lasts for quite some time. Other than that, don't accelerate on hills and drive at consistent speed. (And regardless of any urban myths, running the vehicle with or without a/c does little for gas mileage.)

Make sure the air pressure in the tires is full and that the van does not need a tune up. You might even throw some STP gas /fuel treatment into the tank.

i used to have a van. i'd just take it easy (speed) and not try to force it to do things it didn't want to do. like go up a hill faster then was necessary. changing the spark plug wires and cleaning & gapping the plugs before a trip too. don't take wieght in it you don't really need. (seats).

the "fixed fan blade in the air intake system for better mpg" does not work.
