For a cable news channel, which scenario is better? Is it better to have a couple big stories? These would be stories that would be constantly updated and the entire news programme can be focused on. Or, is it better to make multiple stories? These would be comparably shorter, unrelated segments, that the show would jump from one to another.

I'm asking this question again because I was not satisfied with the first results. And its under 'polls & surveys' because that category seems to get the most traffic. Here's what i got at first: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AtKlP0VXmb9HxGL5LHwVCfHsy6IX?qid=20060716124629AAiHhYM

The problem with 24 hour news, is that they still rely on the AP for stories, instead of sending out reporters to find their own. This severly limits the product they have to sell. In either scenario, they've got 15-30 minutes of actual news that gets looped all day. I believe that ratings would be much better if they spent 30 minutes on the same story, covered and researched in depth, and then moved on to the next, looped no more than 6 times per day. It would be better if the next story was completely different, so that attention spans have something else to grab. As Tivo, other DVR's, and OnDemand programming gain footing, actual timing of the airing will become less important. People could choose to watch a particular story based on a headline, or even a teaser, and find solid covereage of the matter to watch at their leisure.

Well it depends on what you watch the News for. If you watch Headline News ,which I do because that is what effects me the most I want full coverage of all current news so i watch CNN Headline News. After about 15 minutes you have it all. Weather, news, sports which I don't care about and a few crummy medical propaganda reports that may or may not be worth watching and are most likely going to change by next week because some other study comes out.
If something is particularly important to you, lets say one Issue, then I use the Internet because that covers the worlds opinion not just a local or network channels take on it.
Keep in mind that no matter which News channel you decide to watch, in a given 15 minute time span you will only get 6 minutes and 10 seconds of news. The rest will be commercials because that's how they make their money. In an hour that means you get less then 25 minutes of news period, and most will have been repeated 3 times so 25 divided by 3 equals 8.33 minutes of possible new news per hour.Sad isn't it.

OH BY THE WAY!! You didn't ask just one question you asked 4. That is why you can't get a straight answer to your 4 questions and what do you expect for 2 points. Next time ask a reasonable one question question OK?

diverse short memories. the different information channel is probably reporting large information already. keep in recommendations the President's State of the Union? what percentage situations did you be conscious President Bush on a information Channel for the time of primetime? there changed into like 2 channels reporting some thing else with clips of Bush speaking each once in a lengthy time period.

I quit watching the news because it is too negative. I don't care how the segments work as long as they are positive. Our news is focused on crime and violence... not the good stuff!

I stick with FOXNEWS. They present a democrat and republican view and let me think for myself. As far as I'm concerned they run the programs just fine. I especially like Neil Cavuto, John Gibson, and Brit Hume. "Try it, you'll like it."
