Are you asking what people do to cause it to happen or why it can even happen at all?

In the first case, you likely know the answer: too many calories consumed and too few burned.

Why, by nature, can we get fat?

You have to remember that until recent years humans lived lives of feast and famine. Food might be plentiful for months and then completely unavailable almost overnight. The ability to store food as fat during times of plenty meant you would have the ability to survive famine.

Unfortunately, there is no convenient "off-switch" for those of us living in times of perpetual plenty where the next meal is never more than a drive-thru or supermarket away. We have to be very disciplined to avoid packing it on as insurance against a famine that our bodies believe could be just around the corner.

My brother pointed out once that when the allied forces liberated the concentration camps towards the end of World War II the poor bastards incarcerated therein between them had almost every disease known on earth. Oddly not one of those unfortunates was overweight. Fat people are fat because they input to many calories. End of story, fat people are fat because they want to be fat.

People may be overweight (a much nicer word than fat) for medical reasons, but if that is not the case it is just plain greediness, and self indulgence, which basically demonstrates their lack of self control and non awarness of their own appearence.

Although there is a genereric tendency to be either fat or thin the real answer comes down to the amount of calories you consume and the amount of exercise you take.

Count your calories is the first step - it is not too difficult when you get used to it.

Too much fat and sugar in the diet and not enough exercise to burn it off. Pretty straightforward really, think that was a waste of five points for you.

Because people don't realise what a beautiful gift they have in their body and feel the need to destroy it through self indulgence
