for someone who commits a crime of a sexual nature to be rehabilitated? My friend Lia's brother is in prison right now for molesting his niece (Lia's daughter). Will he ever be "fit" for society again?

She's very religious and trying to decide if she should do the "Christian" thing and forgive him and allow him back into her life when he gets out of prison in October. Any suggestions?

It has been found historically that pedophiles are, as a generality, not able to ever be completely rehabilitated. It seems that ongoing lifelong therapy and strict monitoring seems to be the only (somewhat) effective means to protecting society from them. (It has also been found that castration does not work as they simply find other means by which to satiate both the sexual and power issues fundamental to this preference for victimizing the innocent.

I think for your Christian friend's case, the best answer is to ask the DAUGHTER. SHE'S the one who is probably forever traumatized from the experience, and I'm sure SHE is probably not ready to forgive and forget, and if she's VERY young she's probably going to be very afraid of this man for a very long time. Even if it's Christian-like to forgive and forget, DON'T forget about the person who it truly had the most effect on.

Holy crap, Batman! The absolute worst thing she can do is "forgive" this guy and let him hang around the person he victimized! What kind of message is that sending to the poor molested girl???

The forgiveness has to come from the VICTIM.

You can forgive but don't forget, just because she want to do the Christain thing, she still does not need to put her child through hell incase it happens

everyone deserve to be given a chance again.
I think if he realised that he has done wrong, he is definitely 'fit' to live in the society again otherwise.

I reported ML for you. He's probably a pedophile himself, that's why he can't answer the question!
