I'm sure many people have heard or even said "it's the greatest thing since sliced bread" so does that mean that sliced bread is the greatest thing ever? If so, why? and who came up with this term? LOL

I could live with slicing my own bread. So I think that there are better things. Like tampons for example.

Well, I really think this depends where you're coming from and general 21st century priorities. Sliced bread is handy if you don't own a sharp bread knife to cut unsliced bread or your hands and fingers are stiff. On the other hand there is something about large crusty loaves, hedgehog bread etc that draws people to it - the texture, the just baked smell, the giant pieces of toast you can make with the excuse that you couldn't cut the loaf any smaller. So all in all unsliced bread is actually better than sliced bread which really makes that whole phrase redundant. Jaan

No, the greatest thing ever was birth control. But birth control actually came before sliced bread, so going backwards in time from here, my new laptop is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Of course, if you think my laptop is better than sliced bread, then you might say its the greatest thing since birth control. Unless you think its better than birth control, in which case you would just say that my new laptop is the greatest thing ever.

Nope because in order for someone to say that then there would have to be something better, plus I think that the serrated bread companies found it a pain in the you know what more than a great thought.
