A long long history. Here's a great article to read that came out last Sunday in the Washington Post.

They didn't just take their land. They also destroyed Palestinian homes and lives in the process. Have you never heard of Sabra and Chatila, the Palestinian refugee camps where the Israeli army committed genocide?
Israel has a right to exist and a right to defend itself, but it's naive to say that Israel is "innocent" and that the Palestinians as a whole are at fault. The situation is much more complicated than that, with wrongdoing having been committed on both sides. If the United States and the United Nations don't start getting more involved in negotiations with all parties in order to facilitate on ongoing peace process, and we leave it up to Israel and its Arab neighbors to settle, the result will be the bloodshed of hundreds, perhaps thousands, of innocent civilians.

I was traveling in Egypt in Sinai to visit the old monastery of St. Catalina. Our guide was old local Arabic shaikh. He told us that he wish the Israel occupation of Sinai will be back. When we had Jews here, they built us roads and schools. If somebody was thick in our village, they sent helicopter to bring him to the hospital. Now, nobody cares. I would give everything to get Jews back.
So, simple people do not hate Israel. Just there are some political leaders that make their leaving from the conflict, and they do not care if hundreds or thousands of Arabs or Jews will be killed in the retaliation. More than that. For them Israel alive is very important. If it fails, they start killing each other, as used to be in the history. They will immediately loose their "freedom fighters" image.

well of course, there's a great deal of hatred toward the Jews in Israel because they took an isolated piece of desert that was originally Jewish and made a thriving democracy and a booming economy there.
They have repelled repeated attacks on them by groups of arab countries. Usually in less than a week.
They are surrounded by oil rich monarchies and dictatorships who are terrified of democracy and the changes it might bring to their fascist oligarchies. They all have sworn to destroy Israel.
This is just a taste of why Jews are so deapised in the ME.

Your right there is more to the story generations of Israeli and Muslim blood feuds still exist. Like for example Muslims believe that Israel owns some of their "holy land" they claim is rightfully theirs also hundreds of years of fighting doesn't help the situation between them either.

They Usurp a peoples land and then ethnicly cleanse the land of them. Then proceed to occupy and oppress those same people for 30 something years. You don't think that is enough?

How about the fact that the Israelis are allowed to have whatever weapons (nuclear or otherwise) they want, while the Palestinians can't have any to defend themselves.

DKlyde, all those ethnic cleansing accusations are empty unless you back them up.
Israel has been more than fair for a country that has been attacked for the last 60 years.

Well there was a time in this country, a time called NOW, that when you had an all white neighborhood and a black family moved in the surrounding white families did all they could to run out the black family. They use(d) excuses like crime and property values but in reality they hate(d) them because they were(are) different. Hell of a reason to hate.
