Because the U.N. is a useless, ineffectual organization run by corrupt politicians from second and third rate nations! They talk a lot, but never take any action, and on the rare occasion that they do, the lousy incompetents only make things worse.

Because Sudan has signed deals with China, France and Russia to ensure that any action on Darfur gets vetoed at the UN.

Did we care about East Timor? Do we care about Mogadishu? Darfur is just another blip on the radar, a genuine problem requiring real solutions.

In the case of U.S.for financial and military aid, NO OIL, NO MONEY FOR HALLI BURTON. You can see how much the current regime here in the U.S. cares about human dignity and rights just by the way they don't handle the current crisis's in Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, the U.S. gulf coast. When there are no bid contracts with the U.S. government involved the Fuhrer and his henchmen are all over it, if not they just don't care.

People generally only care about themselves, as much as we hate to admit it. It's an internal problem.. therefore a lot of governments don't want to get involved because along with economical help generally comes political help, and with democracy we can't impose on their laws and such. That's why economic relief organizations are so well planned out- because they don't have any ties to one certain country or government.
