but i find that if i listen to something i've recorded a while ago i want to go back and remix or even record a particular part again, it drives me mad as i've often spent alot of time on the work in the first place, anyone else have this problem?

Yes, it's a common problem. It's often said that you are your own worst critic. What seems fine at first gradually becomes imperfect to your own ears with repeated listening. For instance, after recording something it is best to leave the track alone for a couple of days before attempting any sort of mix - your ears won't hear the music in the same way as they will after a short break between recording and mixing. It could also be down to advancement in playing technique. I know I have riff tapes going back 10+ years, and listening back to some of the playing on the earlier ones is just painful!!!!

Your musical taste's don't stay static..sometimes you have improved musically..or just moved on technically. So when you listen to stuff you've recorded in the past, your critical ear will be saying..that's rubbish when perhaps it was just right for then. Some of the best music ever recorded has been flawed. You can always re-use good work in a diff rent context, or bring the old ideas up todate.

*chuckles* You always will. It's part of the creation process, that you'll always think to improve your work.

I do the same thing. But, I also take other people's input, too. So, maybe you should ask some of your friend's opinions, before revamping anything.

Peace!

yep, me too dude....my problem comes from being a severe perfectionist....everything i do, everyday, i have to make sure it is absolutely perfect....its good, for the fact that when i have finished, i am always satisfied with my work...but its bad, in a sense that i will spend much much time on even the simplest word, or simplest detail......good luck
