Because nicotine is an addictive drug and readily available to buy. It is easier to quit marijuana becuase it is relatively harder to get and isn't available in front of your at most fast checkout counters. Marijuana isn't displayed everywhere. SO all you need is the urge to smoke and the cigerettes are there.

Often their parents and other relatives smoke, and so they just assume it's the natural thing to do. Also their peers pressure them into doing it.

addiction, they like it and dont care about the risks. they dont know the risks (if thats possible), they think its cool, etc.
