Look for the Sandisk Sansa e200 is your match. It comes in 2GB/4GB/6GB for $150/$200/$270, inexpensive compared to the iPod Nano.
It has a great 1.8 inch screen that's really bright. It can play short videos, so it's more suited toward TV episodes and music videos than epic movies.
FM radio, FM recording, and vocie recording are the other features on it. It's durable, except the screen, so get a screen protector.
For massive storage, get the Toshiba Gigabeat S. It has a 2.4 inch screen, stores 30GB, and supports the online movie rental service Starz Vongo.
Best Buy and Circuit City have good prices on the e200 series.
Newegg and J&R Music and Computer World are great, too.

iPod.
Good luck finding something inexpensive that can do pictures and/or movies. An Apple iPod($299 for 30gb, about 15,000 songs or $399 for 60gb) is an investment well spent. You hold so much songs, pictures and movies on a 2.5 inch LCD screen. I've heard about Zen but, personally, I trust Apple more so I went with the iPod. It was a good choice! Alot of ones you buy for $99 holds like 100 songs with no screen. You could buy the nano ($149) but it doesnt hold pictures or movies.
Good luck and try the Apple Store!
