I'm filing for my divorce but because I don't know where my husband is, I have to post a notice by publication. How do I go about doing that and how much should it cost?

Every state has a different procedure. In Oklahoma you have to file an Affidavit with the Court setting out all the procedures you have tried to find the person and that it is not possible. (i.e., trying him at last known address, checking with the utility/phone companies for an address, etc.) Then the Court enters an Order allowing the service by publication and you have to publish a notice which sets out everything in your Petition for Divorce (i.e., who gets what property/debt/custody/visitation/etc) and have it published for a certain amount of time (depends on the state). Here we have to publish once and can't get the final order/decree entered until 45 days after the first publication.

Every state has its own rules & requirements. Re-Post your question with the state & maybe someone familiar with that state's procedure can help.
