I've heard about this. In Western society we like to have fun at our weddings but the reception usually only lasts for one evening. I've heard that in other cultures whole communities celebrate the wedding for several days. Please give me some interesting information about the wedding customs of different cultures.

Definitely true. It's mostly in the asian cultures though.

I am a Pakistani by birth so I'll tell you about that a little.

About one-two weeks before the actual wedding, very close family member start gathering every night where they will sing and dance and make plans for the actual wedding. These get bigger the closer they get to the wedding.

There is a function called mayion which is at the bride's home and is usually for females. Every body dresses up in yellow at least the color is that for the day but people wear what they wish too. So, the bride sits in the middle and all the married ladies will come and put some oil in her hair and ubtan on her arms and face.

Then when the actual wedding begins, the first day is mehndi. where we put henna on the girls hands and well there is a lot of dancing and singing and a lot more. I can't really explain it all in writing

The second main function is where the bride and the bride groom actually exchange the vows and the girl leaves her house and the two start their marital life.

The third day is where the bride groom's family invites the brides family for lunch/dinner and there is more rejoycing.

At the end of the third day the brides family takes the wedded couple to their house and the next day the groom's family comes to get them back.

The everyone invites the newly weds for dinners or lunches and since the culture is family oriented three four other families get invited as well.

Not everyone follows the same rules but the main three days are shared by almost all weddings.

UKRAINE. East Europe. West Ukraine. People living high in the mountain area do celebrate wedding for more than 3 days. They start late Thursday, it looks like Bride shower, but the most important days of the wedding are Friday and Saturday. Friday - the celebration/ceremony is going on in bride's society, next day - in groom's society. On Sunday's morning, they usually gather all together to introduce themselves to bride's/groom's families/friends. Folk music all the time, most violin.
I had a chance to be at that wedding twice, when I was a coledge student. Trust me, I was so tired.

i know of the hindu culture. they usually celebrate for two days before the wedding and on the day itself. i think one week after the wedding there is another celebration where both families get together to celebrate the marriage again. there is usually alot of partying at these festivities. their ceremonies are usually very colourful and the bride dresses in beautiful traditional wear of various colours.
