Go for price and not brand. There's only a handful of LCD factories in the world and they all put out the same stuff, but slap different names on the front.

I've had a super-cheapie "no-name" brand for years and have never had a problem - same at work - all generics, they look and work great.

Most computer manufactures like HP or Dell, get another company to make the screen, then just put their name on it, and charge you more, to save money you may want to buy the brand directly.

One of the most popular monitors used by both education and business is Viewsonic. In fact, I owned a Viewsonic for years and never had a problem. They offer a good value for your money.

How about Philips, Samsung? you need to test it to check for dead pixels. Try to go for 20 inches as 17 inches is out of date already.

Buy the cheapest 19" you can find, but ask if you can return the monitor if it has dead pixels within a week.
