If you left the property behind - landlord is REQUIRED by law to store your property and is entitled to reimbursement of those costs before you get them back. It must be in writing (an invoice) and not be excessive....Landlords are not allowed to hold property for back rent

speaking of California, landlords must store previous tenant property for 30 days.
