Both of you need to calm down. She's fine. Periods will never be exactly the same every month. I've had some that I've barely notice and some that were so painful I had a hard time just standing up. If her cramps are that painful, tell her to take some Midol and put a heating pad on the lowest part of her back (right on top of her tailbone) and lay down on her stomach. Heat will cause the blood to flow faster and also relax that muscles causing the cramps. Everything will be fine.

If you're worried about her being pregnant because of this, don't. Menstrual flows can vary and be any degree from heavy to light. There are times when cramping is minimal to extreme.
It's just called being a female.

first of all, how sweet of a guy you are to ask for help for your girlfriend especially about something so personal, she is a lucky girl...
it could be an irregular period, it may depend on her birthcontrol, or what she ate. and maybe just maybe ... pregnant. but cramping is normal with periods. its her uterus contracting to get rid of the blood known as her period. but if she's bleeding more than usaul, has blood clots the size of an plum than she needs to see a doctor, this is not normal bleeding...

A pregnancy test. A doctor. A book. All these things can help you determine if anything is amiss. Else, sometimes it just goes like this - heavy & full on one month, light & long the next.

Has any activities changed, in that either more or less sex this month... If not, does she normally have any irregularities...
I would say that for most women, having a weird period is nothing to be allarmed about, but if she is extreemly regular... I'd say that you might want to get check-up...

Did she take a pregnancy test? Sometimes when a fertilized egg implants, it causes spotting (i.e. light bleedindg) and some cramping. Best to go to Sprawl-Mart and get a $1.99 home pregnancy test!

You sound young. Since she is probably young too, she should realize that her period will be irregular for a few years. If she's that worried, tell her to see a doctor.
