We should plan our escape way before our sun turned into a supergiant. We still have a billion year to perfect the technology.Colonies in space is not a remote possibility.

I think physically we will never have the oppurtunity, for lack of time we have on this planet. It won't be the sun to take us out but the damage where causing the planet thru Global warming and Global dimming. Scientist know believe because of this the oceans alone will rise 7-9 metres in the next 50 years if we don't do something soon. Unfortunately governments are doing to little for this problem especially the U.S who are to ignorant to admit this to be a serious problem. Back to your question, life in space is very possible but not the way you might think it to be. I know people who visit space quite often, but by astal projection (out of body experiences) believe it or not it's happening everyday and anyone can do it with a little work.
consider it, maybe u can see our solar system with your own eyes in this lifetime.

In my opinion there could be colonies in space only if the Earth still existed, because if certain resources could not be found or made on the colonized planet, then replacement supplies would have to be delivered from Earth.

If the human race survives its own barbarism, we will colonize space. Unfortunately, it will not be in our lifetimes. The key to success is traversing the great distances in space and finding liquid water on another world. Liquid water, relatively stable and hospitable temperatures and gravity are all that will be needed for the human race to perpetuate itself on another world.

the sun will eventually kill any life in the solar system, but that is a long time from now. the only habitable world is mars, and maybe some moons and asteroids, but the sun will destroy them as well. might as well have a good time and enjoy the like we have now.

entirely possible.... If we are still around at that stage, the technology we would have would most likely be astounding, we are talking billions of years from now tho.
